Learn techniques to design and make your own creations! You will learn about and use whatever materials and tools you need to create something unique. Your glass will be kiln fired and you can collect, or I will deliver after it is ready. Full details will be sent once you have booked, but general details are:
What are the workshops about?
The aim of the workshop/s is to learn the differences between types of glass design; form glass shapes; be aware of the firing process; create a decoration or gifts and to HAVE FUN! You will explore glass cutting, patterns and specialist glass such as: Dichroic glass, stringers and frit. Extended techniques such as glass painting, stencils and glass printing will also be introduced dependant on which course you come to.
* Demonstrate an understanding of Glass pattern and design.
* Demonstrate an understanding of the practice and methods used in Glass fusing and design.
* Demonstrate technical skills in glass cutting and arrangement.
* Coefficients of glass types, sourcing and selection of glass;
* Cutting, preparation and application to plate glass and direct to a mould;
* Kiln information and finishing after forming.
* Use materials and equipment safely and effectively.
You will design, create and produce a fused glass piece. Please note that the results of firing cannot be prescribed and results are normally seen as a pleasant surprise!
What previous knowledge, experience or qualifications do you need?
Beginners and those with some experience would benefit equally. Children’s workshops available for age 8+ – carer to stay and join in! You will learn in a friendly environment with all appropriate Health and Safety provision with a combination of introductory talk, demonstration, practise with individual support, discussion and course notes to take away. You will develop technical proficiency and confidence in glass fusing, design and creation.
Apart from you keeping a workbook, the tutor will discuss your progress with you and will help you to achieve.
What do I need to bring with me?
For the first session, you will need a notebook and pen. Novices please do not purchase specialist tools before the start of the course. All tools and H&S equipment will be provided.
Health and Safety:
You must wear closed toe shoes.
All masks and gloves will be supplied if necessary.
Are there any additional costs?
Materials will be charged by weight, but is dependent on the size and complexity of your designs.

Courses are designed to progress students to higher levels of the craft and to support application to Access to Art and Degree Foundation courses if you would like to!
