6-Week Adult Sewing Course
A Journey from Beginner to Confident Maker
This 6-week adults sewing course is designed for absolute beginners or those looking to refresh their skills. Through hands-on projects, you’ll learn essential sewing techniques, get comfortable with a sewing machine, discover fabric types, and complete practical projects. By the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to tackle simple garments and home decor projects.
- Duration: 6 weeks (One 2 hour session per week)
- Class Size: Up to 7 participants for a supported, friendly environment
- Level: Beginner/Refresher. Teens and Adults are welcome.
- Materials: All basic materials provided, with options to bring your own for personal projects
- Once you have completed this course, their will be intermediate and more advanced courses for you to try!
Learning Objectives:
- Operate a sewing machine with confidence
- Understand fabric types and suitable uses
- Read and interpret basic sewing patterns
- Master essential hand and machine stitching
- Complete three take-home projects
- Troubleshoot common sewing issues
This workshop takes place in our Sewing School. We have brand new Janome sewing machines for you to use, overlocker, plus all the other tools, equipment and sewing ‘notions’.
Sue Cotten will be your teacher: “Sue Cotten is a life-long maker of anything creative with particular interest in textiles, sewing, paper crafting and a prolific hoarder of ‘stash’! Sue is a fun teacher with a wealth of skills, tips and tricks she loves to share. Everyday is a school day in Sue’s classes. Sue works with various brands, demoing and teaching at The Festival of Quilts and all the major Sewing Events.”
All patterns, notions and workshop is provided within the cost. We will send you a list of what fabrics to bring. Refreshments will be provided throughout the workshop.
We have sewing machines you can use, but if you prefer to bring your own you are very welcome to.
6 x Tuesdays from 2nd September 2025 6.30-8.30pm £120
This workshop takes place upstairs in our new sewing school and I’m afraid we do not have a lift. We do have a toilet and refreshment station upstairs.
