RAKU is amazing!  The colours of the glaze with added metallics and the amazing crazing and spots of the smoke… Have you seen Raku firings?  It is such an exciting and fascinating process and you can be part of it!!

In this double workshop you will first come to a Thursday night clay club on either 12/9, 19/9, 26/9, 3/10 or 10/10 and learn to make ceramic pumpkins and gourds.  You will be taught hand building and sculpting of clay during the evening, along with refreshments.

Your creations will be dried and bisque fired ready for Raku firing on 20th October.  You will then come back on another Thursday evening to prep your pumpkins for the glaze/raku firing (last date to do this is 17th October).  You are then very welcome to come along to watch or even assist in the firing on 20th October (time TBC), but if you cannot make this date we will fire your pieces for you.  If you come along, you can then take your pieces away with you that day.  Please note that the firing date maybe moved if the weather is raining or very windy.

At the ‘Create’ workshops you can come and create anything you would like, either with a friend or by yourself.  We will teach you the basics of glass fusing and you will make something beautiful! Think garden decorations, coasters, bowl, hanging panels, curves, tealight holders, jewellery… have a look at our website gallery for inspiration.

Do you watch the Pottery Throw Down or the film Ghost and think, I want to try that! Well, you can with these taster throwing sessions in which you will explore the techniques of throwing on a wheel.
During the workshop you will learn how to wedge and prepare balls of clay and then have
lots of time to practice the basics of throwing, centring your clay, pulling and then shaping clay to make cylinders and bowls
At the end of the workshop you will be able to choose two of your favourite pots (or 4 if you have booked a full day) which will be bisque fired.  You then have the choice of coming to glaze them yourself on one of the glazing sessions(included in the cost), or I can glazed in a colour of your choice before being fired again. Your finished artwork with be ready for pickup from Felix and Tabitha usually within 6-8 weeks, depending on drying conditions.
£45 per person for half day or £85 per person for full day, which includes all materials, two firing, glaze plus refreshments. . (Aprons are provided but please wear appropriate clothing and take off any jewellery as clay can be very messy.)
There will be a maximum of 9 people attending this workshop, each with their own dedicated potter’s wheel.  Suitable for Adults and older Children.
