Description
A real beginners guide to dressmaking skills. You will learn:
- how to choose your size on a pattern
- cut out a pattern
- transfer it to fabric
- sew a dart
- construct a seam
- add fastenings
We will be working with calico only and using a simple top pattern (all sizes available!). This workshop will give you the skills to understand patterns and take the knowledge and skills to make simple clothes on your own! You will take away your calico experiment and use it for a reminder of ‘how to’.
You will need to know how to use a sewing machine for this workshop, so we suggest doing our Beginners Guide to Sewing Machine workshop before this one.
This workshop takes place in our Sewing School. We have brand new Janome sewing machines for you to use, plus all the other tools, equipment and sewing ‘notions’.
Wendy Gardiner will be your teacher: “It’s hard to describe what I do for a living in a few words because it’s also a hobby, a passion and indeed an addiction! My Serendipity career in sewing has led from Editor of leading sewing magazines to author of 17 books, presenter of countless DVDs and YouTube clips to guest presenter on Create and Craft TV and Ideal World TV. I also run and teach at Creative Sewing Weekends, write projects and techniques articles for various magazines under my guise of Brand Ambassador for The McCall Pattern Company and organise extensive workshop programmes for the Knitting and Stitching Shows and Festival of Quilts, oh and Ive written the book that accompanies the Great British Sewing Bea. I look forward to sharing my passion for sewing with you!”
All materials and workshop is provided within the cost. Refreshments will be provided throughout the workshop.
We have sewing machines you can use, but if you prefer to bring your own you are very welcome to.
16th August 2-5pm £55

This workshop takes place upstairs in our new sewing school and I’m afraid we do not have a lift. We do have a toilet and refreshment station upstairs.
