Dressmaking 4 week Course

£120.00

Description

This 4 week course is for beginners or those who have started their dressmaking/sewing journey.  You will learn:

Week 1: Make a stretch top

Not only will you make a top to fit you – and walk away wearing it, you will learn about cutting, marking and sewing with stretch fabrics. Fabrics with give, such as jersey, sweatshirting and knits are wonderful to work with – when you know the tricks of the trade. Quick and easy to sew, they are also easy to fit. What could be better.

You will need to bring fabric for the top which is made without a pattern – just two measurements.

Week 2: Make Wide Leg Trousers/Palazzo pants

These simple trousers are flattering, easy to wear and simple to make. You will learn how to sew trousers easily, add a waistband and elasticated waist and learn blind hemming techniques. You may not get them completely finished, but you will leave with the know-how to do so.

We will provide the pattern and you will buy the fabric in advance.

Week 3: Make a Shift Dress with zipped fastening and facings.

In this session you will start to make the dress, to finish in the fourth session. You will learn to take accurate measurements, cut out your size, do any pattern adjustments needed and then start sewing – learning about stay stitching, understitching and finishing techniques as you go.

We will provide the pattern and you will buy the fabric in advance

Week 4: Finish your Shift Dress

Continuing with the dress, you will add darts, facings, the zip and hem your garment. All the time learning some top tips along the way to enable you to sew more at home.

You will need to know how to use a sewing machine for this workshop, so we suggest doing our Beginners Guide to Sewing Machine half day session first.

This workshop takes place in our Sewing School.  We have brand new Janome sewing machines for you to use, overlocker, plus all the other tools, equipment and sewing ‘notions’.

Wendy Gardiner will be your teacher: “It’s hard to describe what I do for a living in a few words because it’s also a hobby, a passion and indeed an addiction! My Serendipity career in sewing has led from Editor of leading sewing magazines to author of 17 books, presenter of countless DVDs and YouTube clips to guest presenter on Create and Craft TV and Ideal World TV. I also run and teach at Creative Sewing Weekends, write projects and techniques articles for various magazines under my guise of Brand Ambassador for The McCall Pattern Company and organise extensive workshop programmes for the Knitting and Stitching Shows and Festival of Quilts, oh and Ive written the book that accompanies the Great British Sewing Bea.  I look forward to sharing my passion for sewing with you!”

All patterns, notions and workshop is provided within the cost.  We will send you a list of what fabrics to bring. Refreshments will be provided throughout the workshop.

We have sewing machines you can use, but if you prefer to bring your own you are very welcome to.

16th September, 23rd September, 30th September and 7th October 10-1pm £120

This workshop takes place upstairs in our new sewing school and I’m afraid we do not have a lift.  We do have a toilet and refreshment station upstairs.
