Beginners Quilt in a Day

£120.00

Description

All Materials Included

If you’re eager to learn the fundamental skills of patchwork and quilting, this is the perfect opportunity for you. Spend a day working with precut pieces, allowing you to focus on the piecing and quilting without the hassle of cutting, although you will be taught how to cut fabric, so you will be able to recreate this at home or at our Sewing Club.

All materials are provided, including fabrics for the front and back of the quilt and the wadding for the middle. All you need to do is book, relax, and show up!

You will have a choice of colour for the quilt border.

Finished Quilt Size: Approximately 55″ square

During this day course, we will work with precut 10″ squares to create a classic patchwork quilt. Using precut pieces allows us to focus on piecing, learning how to work with accurate seam allowances, and matching and nesting seams. We will also explore the best ways to press your work, which are all essential patchwork skills.

Once the quilt top is completed, we will consider the best methods for basting the quilt layers together. This stage involves adding the wadding and the fabric for the back of the quilt.

Finally, we will move on to quilting options and how to achieve the best results.

The final step in the process is to add the binding to the edge of the quilt.

This workshop takes place in our Sewing School.

Wendy Gardiner will be your teacher:  Wendy has successfully worked as a freelance writer, teacher and author in the sewing industry all her working life, during which time she has held the role of editor of several leading sewing magazines as well as having written 23 books, including The Great British Sewing Bee from Stitch to Style for the 4th Series.  Wendy has also been a presenter on shopping channels Ideal World, Create & Craft TV and Sewing Street TV.

“I passionately believe in passing on sewing skills and knowledge so that more people can make their own fashion and furnishings and realise it’s a pastime that can be fast, fun, fashionable and affordable. With today’s modern equipment and sewing machines it really can be easy to sew and I love to share that fact.”

The pattern is included as well as fabric, notions and we provide all tools.  Please bring any special fabric you would like to use.  Refreshments will be provided throughout the workshop.

1st November 2025 10-4pm £120

This workshop takes place upstairs in our new sewing school and I’m afraid we do not have a lift.  We do have a toilet and refreshment station upstairs.
